It is true, these are tough economic times. It is also true that there are areas across the country that have not seen as much of an economic decline as other places.
So, what makes those places different from the rest?
The answer is a local mini-economy. It is a pretty simple concept: local people buying from locally owned businesses and repeating the process over and over. When local people do business with other local people, the ebb and flow of the national or global economy does not have as much of an impact.
Sounds easy enough, but what is the major obstacle of this concept?
Connection… actually connecting local people with local businesses. Have you ever looked in the yellow pages for particular business? You will notice a few local businesses mixed in with dozens of ads and listing for companies that only paid for the placement… many of them have never even heard of Franklin, Madison or Hart County, Georgia. The yellow pages are just trying to make a buck, we can’t fault them for that.
Then there’s radio advertising. We may get kicked out of the radio club for saying this… but traditional radio advertising is not for every business. But… the guys from that other radio station say that it is and that they are actually the only station in the world you should advertise with. That is called a sales pitch.
This is not a sales pitch. This is about your local business using your local radio station to let local people know about you. It is our responsibility to do whatever we can to help create and encourage that local mini-economy we talked about.
